How to Choose a Freewheel or Cassette: 1. Count the number of teeth on the smallest piece of the freewheel/cassette; the cassette is generally 11 or 12 teeth. 2. Remove the freewheel/cassette; if there is a column foot on the hub, it is a cassette, and if there is no column foot and it has a screw thread inside, it is a freewheel.
